In 1554 he founded the convent of San Francisco de Almoloyan, by steps taken by Captain Francisco Cortés de San Buenaventura, first mayor of Colima.

With Don Francisco Cortés de San Buenaventura Colima became the first missionaries, the Franciscans Fray Juan de Padilla and Miguel de Bologna.

The Convent of San Francisco de Almoloyan suffered severe damage and its temple was partially destroyed by the great earthquake of May 31, 1818, in that year the priest Don Geronimo de Arzac spent the cult of the Martinez neighborhood, today Villa de Alvarez.
